Additional government sites. There are a few additional sites that can provide tips on government auctions. Guide to Federal Auctions gives a rundown of the various agencies. It provides information about what they sell as well as the departments' websites. GSA supplies information about auction sources. Auctions can be searched by state or auction house
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please be advised that you may experience a short wait time. Please also be advised that there may be some instances where the Property and Evidence staff may be called away from the Safety and Justice Building to assist with off-site support for crime scene investigations. If this happens on the day of your appointment, we apologize in advance. Please schedule a new appointment.
Bidding. Get some information about the type of bidding that normally occurs at these auctions. Feel free to ask the consultant about the expected price of a particular vehicle. When the auction starts, raise your hand and registration number card high in the air so the auctioneer can see you. Bids can be in increments of $100, $250 or even $500. This will be up to the auctioneer's discretion. Before bidding, remember that once a bid is made it cannot be withdrawn. Once the bid is won then the bid cards must be immediately filled out and signed. If this is not done then the vehicle can be re-offered. The government can reject any bid
What tipped me off was an inadequate response when I tried to track an expensive purchase - either the link or the tracking number was bad but I kept getting the same canned responses from customer "support." Phone calls went to voicemail. When I threatened to report them for credit card fraud they responded IMMEDIATELY, but the response was still inadequate.
Ever wonder how you can get your hands on something the government doesn't want anymore? Municibid is your best bet. This is an auction website for government agencies, schools, authorities, and utilities to sell their surplus and forfeitures directly to the public. Auction items include cars, boats, furniture, computers, kitchen equipment, and much more.
I sold a nine-year-old Subaru to myself because no one else at the auction would bid on it. It had no battery and no paint, either. Hell, it wouldn't even shift out of park. I got lucky, though. I bought a $40 battery to get it started and a $40 shift-lock override mechanism so I could get it into gear. Amazingly, that Subaru was a fine car. Ugly as sin, but fine. I put it straight on eBay, where it sold for $1,576.00 to a rally coordinator for Subaru who flew to Atlanta, drove it back, and kept it for another 50,000 miles.

3. There's intense pressure in government auctions. If you happen to see an auction either in television or in reality, you know that it's going to be truly fast pace. You have to think quick and efficiently. If you aren't ready with this type of environment, have someone who can do the bidding for you. Otherwise, you have to start looking for a used car dealer.
All purchases must be removed at buyers expense and responsibility on February 10th from 2:30pm - 4:45pm or February 13th from 8:15am - 4:45pm. Individuals picking up after this date may incur a late removal fee or may not be permitted to participate in future auctions. We schedule our crews based on these dates so if you're unable to pick up within these time frames please do not bid.
Payment methods. A government auction accepts many modes of payment from credit cards or bank checks to cash. It is recommended to ask the auctioneer about the modes of payment involved before the auction starts. Besides the bidding price of the car, an additional buyer's premium fee is added onto the total. This fee is normally 5 percent of the winning bid
Real property - Primarily, this consists of developed land with buildings, usually acquired by the federal government for a specific purpose, such as a military base or office building. This also includes some U.S. Forest Service properties, which usually consist of administrative sites and facilities. The General Services Administration (GSA) is the federal agency responsible for selling developed surplus property.

Law enforcement has the ability to seize or confiscate the property of criminals, or property used by criminals or their associates for the purpose of conducting illegal activity. For example, a person convicted of drug trafficking or the selling of stolen property will forfeit their vehicles and any other property that is used to perpetuate illegal activity or was obtained by the proceeds of that illegal activity. When a vehicle is seized, it's held by the agency until the time of auction.

You could tell that most people knew each other. It felt like these few dozen bidders were part of an exclusive network of junkyard owners and flip-artists who have been bidding on cars against each other for years. Every now and then, when one guy outbid another, you’d see the losing bidder lean over to a friend and talk shit on the winner. “He just buys cars for the sake of buying them. He probably makes no money,” I heard one guy whisper. Police auctions are full of mysteries and secrets.
"So what do you really want to do?" Winkler asked. I told him I wanted to be an auctioneer. Then he gave me the preamble to a speech that he also gave to tons of other people in my shoes: "If you will it, it is not a dream." That's what got me to pick up the phone and begin haunting several nearby auto auctions for months on end. And it truly sucked at first. But thanks to the Fonz, I was already living my dream.

Unless the government will be able to find good use of these cars, they are often sold to the public. Otherwise, they're not only going to keep inventory but they have to spend for their maintenance. Though government car auctions may spell boon for people who have been dying to possess their very own luxury car, there are also disadvantages that you need to consider:

"As our police business has grown, we've been approached by other liquidators," Bellomo said. "This downturn has put 3,000 brick-and-mortar retail stores out of business. There is distressed merchandise all over the United States. Brand-new jewelry and watches, authentic sports memorabilia, fine art. Liquidators are coming to us and saying, 'Can you work with us the way you work with police agencies. Can you turn this excess inventory into cash?'

Do your research. Check Kelly Blue Book for the proper price for the vehicle, including its mileage and apparent condition. Always downgrade the condition by one ranking for government auctions. Also, do some smart used-car research, such as checking Consumer Reports for reliability and the frequencies of particular repairs, and checking our road test information if it's a recent model vehicle.
The best bargains are usually on the older less-than-perfect vehicles that dealers don’t want to spend time and money on. Dealers go for the relatively late-model higher-priced vehicles. Since dealers want to make a profit by buying low and selling high, you might be able to pick up a good car by bidding slightly higher than a dealer is willing to pay. Or bid on older vehicles that dealers don’t want.
To bid, you'll mostly need to go to an auction house on the day and bid in person. However, some auction houses now offer live internet or telephone bidding. You'll have to register to bid with the auction house, whether you're bidding in person or not. You should be able to find out when the next police auction will be held by visiting the auction house's website.
